Teething and Upset Tummy Problems
Teething and upset tummy problems often go together, and so typically you should not worry if your little one is experiencing stomach ailments during the teething phase. However there are certain points at which teething and upset tummy problems are more serious, and this may not be related to teething at all in fact, and most likely is symptomatic of another ailment altogether.
This is why it is so crucial to keep a close eye on your baby during their teething phase, so that you can watch out for any warning signs or symptoms that something else may be wrong. Far too often parents assume that any negative symptom is simply a result of the teething when in reality it could be related to something entirely different.
When Teething and Upset Tummy Problems are Normal
Basically the best way to tell that your baby’s teething and upset tummy problems are normal is by how much they are spitting up. A bit of spit up, particularly after meals, is normal, however if they are constantly throwing up and are missing meals, then this is most likely a sign of something more serious.
If the spit up is clear or white then it is usually okay, whereas if it is brownish or blackish or there is any blood at all, this is serious and you need to get them checked out as soon as possible.
When Teething and Upset Tummy Problems are not Normal
If the teething has stopped but the upset tummy symptoms have continued, then your child most likely is suffering from a virus of some sort, and so you will need to take them in to the doctor and get the proper medication for them. As well, if either of these problems is accompanied by a rash that is located anywhere other than on the face, there may be something more serious at hand.
You really need to pay close attention to your baby, especially when they are teething, because you may miss symptoms of ailments due to those that are caused by the teething. Taking them in for frequent checkups to the doctor while they are teething is important, because your doctor may see something that you missed.
As long as you keep an eye on them and their health and do everything that you can to relieve their teething pain, then there should be no problems, the teething phase will be over before you know it and your baby will be back to feeling like their regular self again.
