Teething Pacifiers Help Cut Pain Of Emerging Teeth

One of the ways parents can help their babies get through cutting teeth is with quality teething pacifiers, allowing it use only when the child is uncomfortable with the teething process. When choosing teething pacifiers they should be the right size for the infant’s mouth and whether hard, smooth plastic and rubber or gel-filled to allow for cooling, they have to be washable to prevent oral bacterial infections.

Many parents shy away from the use of teething pacifiers or any other type, preferring the infant learn to go without the sucking motion when they are not eating. However, teething pacifiers are used for helping infants massage their gums while their insidious teeth are working their way through the gums. By using one with a liquid filling that can be cooled in the refrigerator, the coldness can offer additional relief for the baby’s sore gums.

During the teething period, teething pacifiers should be examined regularly for indications of damage. If small pieces get broken off they could become lodged in the baby’s throat and create a choking hazard. They should also be thoroughly washed and sanitized on a regular basis to insure they are clean for the child to put in it mouth.

Pays To Take Care Of Baby’s New Teeth

While teething can be a frustrating time for the infant as well as the parents, taking care of the baby teeth is just beginning. From the time the first tooth pops out, mom or dad should begin cleaning them and once the smaller teeth have arrived, teething pacifiers should disappear as the sucking action on the teeth can cause irregular growth of the new, incoming teeth.

Regardless of how the child feels about the taste, teething pacifiers should never be coated with syrup or other sweet items as they can promote tooth decay as the teeth are beginning to grow. While some parents believe that it does not matter since the baby teeth will be replaced by permanent teeth, rotted baby teeth can transfer to the permanent teeth as they grow in. They can also cause serious gum infections.

There are pros and cons to using teething pacifiers and if parents choose to use them while their infant is teething, they have to remember to break them of the habit once all their teeth are in. Preventing crooked growth and problems when the permanent teeth try to grow through, the teething pacifiers should only be used for teething.
