Teething Virus: Why Children Have Fever When Their Teeth Start To Grow
Although a lot of pediatricians in the past would insist that fever during the teething stage is something that is not directly connected the growing of teeth, recent studies showed that there are certain teething viruses that affect children during this stage and cause the rise in the temperature of their bodies. According to the study, the “teething virus” as they call is responsible to many types of illnesses that affect children during the teething stage.
In most cases, the teething virus can cause diarrhea, colds and fever during the time when your baby is teething. In some babies, the effects of the teething virus can be more severe. However, since the teething virus is self-limiting and will most likely die out on its own, there is really not much to worry about. As long as your baby is healthy, the immune system of the body of your baby can take care of the teething virus without many problems.
Boosting The Immune System of Your Baby
According to medical studies, the mother’s milk have protective properties against diseases such as ear infections, bacterial meningitis, severe diarrhea, urinary tract infections in infants, asthma, allergies, botulism, some types of viruses and constipation. Breastfeeding therefore, is the best way to strengthen the immune system of your baby. The mother’s milk contains anti-bodies that can boost the capacity of your baby’s body to protect itself from viruses such as the teething virus. If you are a young mother who had just had your first baby, make sure that your baby gets to drink plenty of your milk especially during the first six months of his or her life.
When breastfeeding your baby, make sure that you take care of yourself. Eat plenty of fresh fruits, vegetables and whole grain foods. Always remember that the quality of your milk will depend large on the type of diet that you have. If you are not healthy, your baby will mostly likely not get the right kind of nutrients to help him or her grow healthy and strong.
Aside from breastfeeding, you may ask your doctor for some supplements to help boost your baby’s immune system. Do not give your baby any supplements without your doctor’s advice. Furthermore, if your baby starts feeling unwell because of probable infection with teething virus, do not given him or her anything without the doctor’s advice. Forget about those over the counter medications. You cannot really be sure that these over the counter medications are right for your baby so do not attempt to use them without your doctor’s knowledge.
